Straight from the Heart

Happy Mother’s Day! We join in praising God for the marvelous gift of motherhood and for the many women who beautifully exemplify what God had in mind.

Join me in welcoming David and Marilou Skipper to the Green Lawn family. They are from Abernathy so we are glad to have them make a commitment to serve and grow with us.

The Willow Creek Church located in the suburbs of Chicago recently did a self-evaluation to determine if their members were truly becoming disciples of Christ. This church, long a model for church growth and mega church development, was disappointed by what they found. Despite all the activities and opportunities, they found a lack of depth and true discipleship. What would we find?

I am convinced that the Green Lawn Church is a wonderful group of people. But we know that lifelong faith is best initiated and nurtured in the home with the church providing the equipping and reinforcement of the values, beliefs, service opportunities, encouragement, and examples needed for fostering lifelong faith. Let’s work together to make sure the discipling going on in our homes is supported by the discipling going on in our church. Likewise, let’s make sure the discipling going on through our Bible classes, assemblies, and activities are supported by the discipling going on in the home. It is an appropriate reminder on Mothers Day: Let’s work together for God’s glory and for stronger followers of Jesus.
