What do you think of when you hear the word “miracle”? We use the word in so many different ways in every day language. “It’s a miracle I didn’t get picked for jury duty!” “My father regaining his health was nothing short of miraculous!” “It’s a miracle that Voyager II can send us pictures of Neptune some 2.7 billion miles away.” “The safe landing of that airplane was a miracle, considering that it fell 19,000 feet after its engines flamed out.” “I experienced a miracle in the birth of my baby girl.”
The word is used loosely to describe anything supernatural, out of the ordinary and unusual, or awesome and wondrous. The New Testament meaning of miracle requires
a much more restrictive usage.
The miracles of Jesus tell us something about Jesus Himself and the Kingdom He came to establish. Studying the miracles of Jesus is to become a part of the
living object lessons of Jesus.
