What Babies and Toddlers Learn in Bible Class

What Babies and Toddlers Learn in Bible Class

Material: See and Know by Lois Whitaker

Because spiritual concepts for babies are learned through the tangible, the babies are
blessed with a variety of experiences in the Bible class setting. These babies observe,
touch, taste, smell, hear and repeat many things as they learn who God and Jesus are and
how much God loves them.

Babies learn through repetition. A basic lesson plan is repeated each week of each
quarter. Each class expands on the basic plan by adding more details as the children
progress to age two.

A typical lesson focuses on four areas:
1.    The Bible
Babies begin to understand the Bible as a special book that tells us about God.
2.    God
Babies experience wonder at the things God created.
Babies hear about God’s ideal for families.
Babies hear that God made them and loves them very much.
Babies hear and say prayers to God.
3.    Jesus
Babies experience happy feelings associated with Jesus.
Babies hear that Jesus loves them.
Babies hear about Jesus as a baby, toddler and a man.
Babies begin to associate experiences at home with experiences at church.
4.    Response to God
Babies begin to associate experiences at home with experiences at church.

Through songs and hands-on learning in a safe and secure environment with loving adults, babies experience activities which will enhance their sense of trust and lay a foundation for spiritual development.
