This well-known, favorite children's rhyme can be misleading. God never intended the "church" to be a building. It is the people of God called out of an attachment with the world to accomplish His purposes for the world today.
God has blessed the Green Lawn church with beautiful and functional facilities. These facilities serve as a tremendous tool to carry out the work He has for the Green Lawn church. Green Lawn has never been short on vision, and our facilities have had a hard time keeping up. For this reason we have pursued the next phase of facility expansion. With God's help and His blessing, we want to provide more room in our physical plant to accomplish the work of ministry in our community.
Updates to the 2008 Facility Expansion Project:
Keep the continuing planning in your prayers every day!
April 27 - With the results of the Stewardship Campaign coming in, plans for meeting the growing needs of Green Lawn's ministries enters a new phase. The statement below was read on behalf of the elders.
We want to give the congregation an update of the initial thrust of the commitments made through last week. Not all the commitments have come in yet, but it looks like we have committed approximately three million dollars. Praise God for your generosity! We, your elders, know that many of you prayed for God’s guidance, then searched for ways to give a little more. We are grateful that making disciples means so much to you. This campaign has allowed us to build relationships that would not have been built otherwise. Many have been able to get involved in the work of the Green Lawn church in ways they had not before. We have been stretched in our faith and called to a greater reliance on God. By any definition, this has been a successful event in the life of the Green Lawn Church.
Throughout this process we have sought the guidance of God. Our prayers have been diligent and faith-filled. While we shepherds are willing for the congregation to take on a manageable debt for the new construction, we have long been committed to not putting this congregation in a position where the mission and ministry of this congregation will be strangled by debt. We are concerned that the building we proposed four weeks ago would do that. So we believe that faithful stewardship, and following God’s leading, demands that we take the results and reconsider how to proceed from here. We need to determine what can be built with the resources available to
us – and if it will adequately meet our growing needs. So we solicit your prayers and input as we consider how best to meet the expanding needs of our education, college, youth, outreach, and fellowship ministries.
This is an ongoing process. Our budget has built into it the ability to handle a 1.5 million dollar debt. Because of this we have gone back to our architects and asked them to determine what can be done with a 4.5 million dollar budget. We will keep you posted.

November 2007 - Regular weekly meetings have been set up to look over floor plans, evaluate priorities, and develop the final design of additional facilities. Choices are being made about what we can do now and what will have to be phased in later.
October 2007 - The contracts with the architectural firm have been signed. We now have several additional resources we can draw from in the planning of additional facilities. Some hard decisions will now have to be made about specific directions our building program will take.
April 2007 - Report to the congregation concerning facility expansion plans. A building committe has been evaluating the Master Plan guiding future facility expansion to determine adjustments that need to be made based on current and future ministry needs. That work has been done and the project is moving into the predesign phase.
